One Directionitis!!!

So, my best friend is probably going to get annoyed by this post probably but whatever. It's my blog and if I want to talk about Niall Hor....I mean One Direction, then I am going to talk about N....One Direction. So the hot new British Boy band formed after the five members, which I will get to in a minute, all auditioned as solo artists on the X-Factor and were later put together to form a boy band, which came to be called One Direction. They have garnered quite a following of Directioners, which is what their fans are called, much like Justin Bieber fans are called Beliebers. Speaking of Justin Bieber, it seems that One Direction sold out their WHOLE NORTH AMERICAN TOUR IN LESS TIME THAN IT TOOK FOR ONE JUSTIN BIEBER SHOW TO SELL OUT. Take that Beibs!!! Anyway, on to the members of the band!!!

First up we have ladies man Harry Styles. Youngest member of the band and according to the boys the biggest flirt.

Next is Louis Tomlinson. He is the clown of the group, and he seriously does not want to grow up. Ironically he is the oldest member of the band.

Liam Payne is the serious member of the band. Although I have heard tell that he has come out of his shell since being around the boys and isn't as serious as before.

I don't know a whole lot about Zayn Malik. In fact I know very little about him aside from that fact that "Vas Happening!" seems to be a running joke in the band and it always seems to come from him or be directed at him.

Last but definantly not least...(in fact I think he's the best!!!) is the Irish member of the band Niall Horan. I believe my room just got about ten degrees hotter just thinking about him. Anyway, he was saved by Katy Perry on the X-Factor and apparently just barely made it through to boot camp. Niall is the eater of the group, and he loves swing music. And I still like him even though he is a Justin Bieber fan. I must admit though that I do like Justin's song Boyfriend.

Their album is very fun and I even like the slower songs. I usually avoid slow songs but theirs aren't bad. My favorite song on the album is What Makes You Beautiful and One Thing. Up All Nite is a very fun song to just dance around your room to.

So that about wraps up my post on One Direction. Until next time, Keep the Pages Turning!!!

Virals by Kathy Reichs

Summary:

Virals is the story of a group of teenagers who are exposed to an experimental strain of parvovirus that can be contracted by humans. The virus changes them and they have to try and figure out what the virus did to them while trying to solve a forty year old murder mystery that has Tory and the gang racing to catch a killer before the killer catches them. Together, with their new abilities they begin to collect clues, connect dots, and place puzzle pieces together to form the big picture. But will they be in time? In time for what? In time to save their lives.

Characters:

Tory Brennan: Fearless leader. She is constantly leading her reluctant friends on dangerous missions in an effort to find out what has happened to them and why someone is trying so hard to cover up a forty year old murder. Also, Tory Brennan is Temperance Brennan’s, of the Temperance Brennan books and Bones fame, great-niece.

Quote: “I’ll give him this: he didn’t treat us like kids. He treated us like criminals.”

Hiram Stolowitski: Commedianne extrordinaire. Easily the most reluctant of the group to go on the missions but not the most nervous. He always finds something at least remotely comical in their situations and brings a few laughs. A.k.a. Hi.

Quote: “‘BS is my specialty. If you lived in my house, you’d be a pro, too.’” Hi.

Ben Blue: The Brawn and Transportation. Very mysterious. Doesn’t talk much. He owns the boat, the Sewee, that transports Tory, Hi, Shelton, and himself to school everyday and into trouble. He is also referred to as Blue on occasion. It is implied that Ben and Tory may like each other. Do they? You ask?  Read the book and find out.

Quote: “’Tory can order me around inside my head,’ Ben said. ‘If that doesn’t make us close, I don’t know what does.’”

Shelton Devers: Puzzle Whiz. Shelton is the most nervous and scared, but because of his rationale he usually agrees with Tory’s plans because while dangerous, and often illegal, they are necessary.

Quote: “‘We may suck at breaking in to places, but we’re money at sneaking out!’”

These are just the main characters. To find out about the rest, check out the book.

Review/Thoughts:

I absolutely loved this book. Loved it. It is one that will have a permanent place on my bookshelf. Also, for all you fans of the TV show Bones, if you didn’t already know it, Bones was based on the Temperance Brennan books written by, you guessed it, Kathy Reichs. I tried one of the TB books and didn’t like it as good probably because I watched Bones before I read the books, but I thought I would give Virals a shot and I am SOOOOO glad I did. I must issue a warning, however. THIS BOOK CONTAINS SCIENCE CONTENT. YOU MAY ACTUALLY LEARN SOMETHING FROM IT. All joking aside, the science that is in it is actually pretty cool. Not boring like something you have to do in school.

Quotes:

1.       “‘I can’t believe you jokers fixed it,’ Hi was picking his way down to the beach.

‘Believe it, clown. Too much brain power here to fail.’ Still pumped, Shelton threw another palm       Ben’s way.

‘Oh, I’m sure.’ Hi stretched, yawned. ‘It was something highly technical, I suppose? Something required mechanical ability? Nothing as simple as tightening a wire or flipping a switch, right?’   Ben reddened. Shelton developed an interest in his sneakers.

Score on for Hi.”

2.       “ ‘Oh Mr. Limestone, thank God you were here! I would have wet my pants without you!’ Hi fake-swooned into Shelton’s open arms. Both started laughing, drawing frowns from the other patrons.”

3.       “ ‘I’ve got bones here.’

‘Where?’ Ben dropped his shovel and peered over my shoulder. ‘Holy crap! You were right.’

Shelton’s response was less manly. Spotting the gruesome discovery, he yelled, ‘Grave, grave!’ and scrambled from the pit.

Hiram took one look and promptly upchucked.

4.       “’Someone is going to be inside that house,’ Hi said, ‘Claybourne Manor has forty freaking rooms! The place will be knee-deep in ninja butlers.’”

5.       “’Baravetto was unconscious when we found him,’ Hi said, ‘What did you do to the guy?’

‘Kicked him in the balls, then brained him with a rolling pin. Twice.’ [Tory]

‘Punted and pinned. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy…’

So…yeah. Loved the book. Laughed out loud many times. If you read it I hope you like it too. Until next time, Keep the Pages Turning!

Coming Soons!!!

So these are just some of the releases I am looking forward to. I read so much I guess because I try to fill in the lengthy gaps between the books in my favorite series, but then that just makes more series to read in between gaps of new series, and so on and so forth…I think I have a problem. Maybe they should make an RA group. Readers Anonymous. “My name is ……, and I read too much.” Anyway, on to the books!!!

1.            Wicked Business by Janet Evanovich. It is the sequel to Wicked Appetite which I will be reviewing sometime in the future. This series is a spinoff of her Stephanie Plum novels, which I have also heard called her By-The-Numbers series. Diesel, one of the main characters, first appears in Visions of Sugar Plums, the first between the numbers book. And may I just say that Diesel is one of the most scrum-diddily-uptious (Yes I said that) book characters ever? Release date of the book is June 19th. So close yet so far away!

2.            Code by Kathy Reichs. Third in her Virals Series, which, once again, I will be reviewing sometime in the near future. Release date is indetermined but it is coming out in 2013. (Bang head against the wall in hopes that time will bend to my demands if I injure myself. Not working.)

3.            Tiger’s Destiny by Colleen Houck. Final book in the Tiger saga. Yummy Indian men are found in these books. Though Kishan (one of the book characters) is the best. However, my best friend disagrees with me. That’s alright though. This way we won’t fight over who gets who just over who’s better than who. Tentative release date is September 4th but isn’t set in stone yet. Also, not set in stone is wether I will actually review the books. I may review the series but three books to review when I have so many I want to review that I have already read and many others I want to read and review? Hey, I’m not Wonder Woman.

4.            Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins. Last in a trilogy of books, the others entitled Anna and the French Kiss and Lola and the Boy Next Door. I happen to have met Mrs. Perkins  personally. (Smug smile) AND earned best friend brownie points by getting a signed copy of Lola for my BFF for Christmas. Also, I am pretty tight with a friend of Mrs. Perkins. I will be reviewing the first book in this series at least and more than likely the second one too. The release of Isla will be in 2013.

5.            Reached by Ally Condie. Final book in a trilogy. I have read the first one, Matched, but have yet to read the second one. However, I have the second book in the trilogy, Crossed, on hold on my library card so hopefully I will have read it soon. Reached is set to be released on November 13th.

6.            Glitch by Heather Anastasiu. This book is the first of a trilogy by a brand new author. I am rather intrigued by the plot (you can get intrigued also if you google the authors name and read about the book.) and can’t wait for it to come out. Which will be on August 7th.

So these are just a few of the many books that are coming out. And I am interested in all of them. Perhaps you will be too. And if I am responsible for getting you hooked on reading I apologize…for not starting a blog sooner. :P Next Review will probably be on Saturday. Until then, Keep the Pages Turning.

Just Listen by Sarah Dessen

Just Listen By Sarah Dessen

Summary:

This is a story about a girl who is perceived as perfect. By some people at least. She is a model and has appeared in commercials and ads for various companies. This is the Annabel Greene that everyone sees. What they don’t see is that her best friend now hates her and her sister has an eating disorder. Being isolated at her school and at home, she retreats into herself. After a confrontation with Sophie, the ex-best friend, she meets Owen Armstrong.  Annabel learns about self-acceptance with Owen's help and may finally be ready to tell about what really happened when she and Sophie stopped being friends.

Review/Thoughts:

This is one of my all-time favorite stories. I have read this story many times over and still love to read it again. I highly recommend this book as well as many of Sarah Dessen’s books. She is currently working on a new one that her blog said was titled Someone Else’s Summer. It is set in Colby as are a couple of her other books. I don’t know much else about it, but I plan on re-reading her other books so that I might be able to pick up better on some of the references to other books.

Quotes:

1.       “I didn’t hear the footsteps. Or see the shadow. Instead, from where I was crouched on the ground, the green of the grass filling my vision, the first thing I made out were hands, a flat silver ring on the middle finger of each. One was clutching my notes. The other was reaching out for me.”
2.       “So, you must really like music.”-Annabel
               “Don’t you?”- Owen
“Sure,…, I mean, everybody does, right?”
               “No.”
               “No?”
“Some people think they like music, but they have no idea what it’s really all about. They’re kidding themselves. Then there are people who feel strongly about music, but just aren’t listening to the right stuff. They’re misguided. And then there are people like me.”
“People like you,”…, “What kind of people are those?”
“The kind who live for music and are constantly seeking it out, anywhere they can. Who can’t imagine a life without it. They’re enlightened.”
3.       “You did not,”…”Just cover your ears. Did you?”-Owen
“It was an accident,”…”I just—“-Annabel
“That’s serious.”…”I mean it’s one thing to listen and respectfully disagree. But to shut it out entirely, and not even give it a chance—“
“I gave it a chance!”
“You call that a chance?”…”That was five seconds.”
“It was long enough to form an opinion.”
“Which was?”
“I covered my ears,”…”What do you think?”
And there are many more great quotes from the book. If you want to find out what they are…find a copy of the book and read it! So until next time, Keep the Pages Turning!

Hello Everyone.

Hey People!

Between The Pages is a blog I am starting in order to write book, tv, movie, or music reviews. However the majority of the reviews will be about books. As this is my first blog, and my first time reviewing anything (that wasn't for school), I hope you will be understanding and allow me to learn the ins and outs and give me the time to grow. The first few book reviews I post will probably be about books that I have already read. Also, as I am reading new books I will try and put up a post or two on books that I have already read (You wouldn't believe the amount of books I have read! Crazy!) After a while, I may begin writing reviews on requested books after a while so stay tuned and start making a list of books you may like for me to review! :) I may also add links to some of my favorite songs on Youtube or websites that I like. Well I think that about covers it for now. So follow me :) and keep the pages turning!
